Many clients of all levels, from all over the world return to us on a yearly basis.

Safety of our riders is very important here at Iceford Stables. All our countryside treks are started in our spacious indoor arena. After a short assessment practicing the basics and everyone feels comfortable with their horses, we head outside. The treks are guided by experienced and qualified staff.  This is a suitable activity for everyone in the family/group. Outside the treks will taken at the level of the most novice rider in the group and this is to ensure that it is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.  For the more nervous riders there will be staff walking on foot alongside you to encourage and help you to build confidence.

When your group returns to the indoor we will spend a little while with some more instruction and an introduction to the rising trot. The more experienced riders in the group can also work a little at their level.

Our aim is to share with you what we enjoy, being outdoors in the countryside with our team of steady, well trained  Irish horses and ponies.

Mountain Rides (Intermdiate And Experienced Riders)

You will spend 3-4 hours exploring the Ox Mountains and surrounding areas. This ride starts on a beautiful forest track, where it will continue along quiet country roads around the quant village of Attymass with fantastic views of the Ox Mountains, lakes and bog-lands on every side. Once we reach the hills there is the Ox Mountains on one side and the distinctive Nephin Mountain on the other. This is a relaxing and peaceful ride and a superb way to see the Irish countryside from the back of one of Icefords sturdy horses. Mountain rides will take you over various terrain from quiet country roads, bog tracks and some amazing grass canter tracks. At the end of each of these there are views to take your breath away.

This ride has a number of off road canter tracks along which you will see (although not obvious at times) many old ruins and fascinating pre-historic and early Christian sites hidden along the way.

Most important you will be stopping for a picnic beside one of the hidden lakes with your newly acquired equine friend. You will have chance to enjoy your packed lunch. Once you are full and our horses have had a snack and rest it will be off again to enjoy further breath-taking views of countryside, mountains, lakes and rivers.
